When I was growing up, the daughter of a Holiness (Pentecostal) Preacher, there were times that life wasn't easy!  The very title, "Holiness Preacher" conjured up mental pictures that were hard to explain to people at school who asked what it meant. They saw the ladies at our church, no make-up,no jewelry, sleeves that covered the elbow and slacks? Forget that! Looking back, it seems to me,their holiness was a totally outward show that didn't necessarily reflect the inward motives. A lot of them had tongues, not of the Holy Ghost, but of gossip! Sometimes I feel that I have failed in so many ways. If I could mend a broken heart with my hands, or heal a sick body or broken spirit by my will or my words I would do it. There is a helpless feeling when you have done all you can do and it doesn't seem enough. We talk about casting all our cares on Him, but talking it and doing it are two different matters. So while I am feeling inadequate, my soul's enemy tells me it is because I am not HOLY enough! That is a wonderful roller coaster guilt trip for anyone to get on! I am figuring that if Satan tries to get to me by using that line, he possibly uses it on you too, so let me give you the scripture "weapon" that you can use against him: Psalm 51:7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I'll come out clean, scrub me and I'll have a snow-white life. Tune me in to foot tapping songs, set these once-broken bones to dancing. Don't look too close for blemishes, give me a clean bill of health. God, make a fresh start in me, shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life. Don't throw me out with the trash, or fail to breathe holiness in me. Bring me back from gray exile, put a fresh wind in my sails! Give me a job teaching rebels your ways so the lost can find their way home. Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God, and I'll sing anthems to your life-giving ways. Unbutton my lips, dear God; I'll let loose with your praise. Reading this Psalm, that David wrote after Nathan the Prophet came to him when he had commited adultry with Bathsheba, I feel redeemed. Holiness is most beautifully displayed in a broken and contrite spirit, one that is submitted to God, not arrogant or proud, but humble and moldable in God's hand. When you get to that place you can say "Have Thine Own Way Lord, have thine own way, You are the potter I am the clay, Mold me and make me after your will, while I am waiting, yielded and still." I think that "waiting yielded and still" is the hardest part, while we are being molded it can get uncomfortable and while we are trying to be a "living sacrifice", Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship, we tend to climb down off the altar choosing to be free of the cleansing rather than get "scrubbed behind the spiritual ears!"

Don't let Satan hand you a bill of goods about your not being Holy or good, read  Titus 3:5 He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Be blessed, pray, know that you are Holy because He is Holy!

Larry Gatlin wrote a song which Johnny Cash recorded and we sang it many times, it was called simply, "Help Me." Part of the lyrics went like this: Lord, Help me walk Another mile, just one more mile; I'm tired of walkin' all alone. Lord, Help me smile Another smile, just one more smile; You know I just can't make it on my ownIf you read the Psalms, you find many times that the Psalmist David said these same words, over and over again. Oh I know they sound different, but these words capture the heart of the writer. As I have been going through boxes of old pictures and looking at faces smiling at me, relatives, long gone, children grown with children of their own, minister's and church members we thought were loyal friends that have moved on, it almost depressed me. The song made famous by the Righteous Brothers says "Time goes by so slowly and time can do so much.." the true part of that is that time can do so much, the slowly part, not so much. Job 7:1-6 "Human life is a struggle, isn't it? It's a life sentence to hard labor. Like field hands longing for quitting time and working stiffs with nothing to hope for but payday, I'm given a life that meanders and goes nowhere—months of aimlessness, nights of misery! I go to bed and think, 'How long till I can get up?'I toss and turn as the night drags on—and I'm fed up! My days come and go swifter than the click of knitting needles, and then the yarn runs out—an unfinished life! Sounds to me like Job was the epitomy of depression! It is easy to let yourself slip into that familiar "robe" of depression. I am convinced that when Satan was defeated as Jesus died on the cross and then rose again, he looked around for something that would defeat the body of Christ in a manner that would catch us "off guard" to the point that we would just be overcome with this damned thing and  wilt like a flower that needs water! There are OBVIOUS things that he could bring to us, but we recognize obvious and therefore we could ignore him or tell him to go on back to his home (hell) and leave us alone! BUT...this depression thing is meant to kill us without us ever raising our hand to stop him.

So do you see how we have to handle this? The devil is like a wasp that comes in on us while we are doing our every day chores, lands right on your head (in your mind) and if you don't "brush him off" you will find yourself stung with thoughts of suicide, worthlessness, feeling that you have made all the wrong choices for your life and feeling like "it is all over for you"...as I say this I feel that one of you who will read this is feeling this RIGHT NOW...so stand up shake your fist in the devils face and tell him that "you have overcome him by the blood of the Lamb and the Word of your testimony" Revelations 12:11, and your testimony should be "Satan I don't have to fight you, you are defeated by the Blood of Jesus and I know that no matter how bad things look, they will all work together for my good because I love the Lord and I am the called according to His purpose by the Word of God in Romans 8:28!"  Also I am asking you to read Psalm 30...the whole chapter, but I will give you one piece of verse 5 which says..."weeping may endure for the night, but JOY comes in the morning!" and I say AMEN and AMEN to that!

As a child, if you ever did anything wrong you were threatened with punishment. Yours may have been having your allowance withheld, no TV for a week, these days it is no Facebook, phone, for an extended period of time. As for me, I got spanked, and in my time, any adult available felt free to administer it! My granddaddy spanked me for the simple sin of punching out the intriguing green light on the console radio, my grandmother for stepping on her toes, my dad for talking in church and my mother, well, you better not be "sassy"! As you grow older you seem bent on punishing yourself, whether you realize it or not and there is the beginning of being afraid of the punihment of God. Yes I heard about hell fire, but I also heard about the love of God from a dad who explained why I was being punished and then prayed with me and then let it go, so I understood the difference between being rewarded and praised for something good I had done and being punished for my "evil" ways! I thought it was time to bring you a few scriptures showing the reward side of our God.  Genesis 15:1 this word of God came to Abram in a vision: "Don't be afraid, Abram. I'm your shield. Your reward will be grand!" Psalm 19:10-11The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous...By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great rewardIsaiah 40:10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power,.. See, his reward is with him. Jeremiah 31:16..But now this is what the Lord says: “Do not weep any longer, for I will reward you,” says the Lord. Matthew 6:4 Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. 2 John 1:8 Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward. Rev. 22:12 "Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. These are only a few of the 103 references to "reward" in the Bible, compare that to the 25 times that the word "punishment" is used in the Holy Writ! WOW, I would say that God loves us, His own dear children! 2 Chronicles 16:9 The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. Psalm 33:18-19 Watch this: God's eye is on those who respect him, the ones who are looking for his love. He's ready to come to their rescue in bad times; in lean times he keeps body and soul together. Are you feeling pretty special right about now? If you aren't you ought to be, read these scriptures again, these are only a few of the ones that tell us how much God loves us, how He is watching over us, how He wants to reward those that love and serve Him! Be blessed!

In Matthew chapter 8 we read of the Centurion who came to Jesus and told Him that his servant was at home, paralyzed and in terrible suffering.Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him." The Centurion replied,"Lord I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go', and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant,'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard this, He was astonished and said to those following Him,"I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith."  8:23-26  Jesus got into a boat with His disciples, He was going to take a rest while they crossed to the other side Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.  The centurian believed Jesus could do the miracle so strongly that he didn't even need Him to go to his house, just speak the Word! The disciples were with Him every day, SAW Him do all the miracles, starting with turning water into the best wine of the day at a wedding, healing lame, raising dead, opening deaf ears, delivering people from demons..and yet there they were on the boat WITH Him and they were afraid they were going to drown, now I have a problem with that! Of course it happens today also, we get answers to our prayers and when a crisis, large or small, occurs, we panic, "HELP! I don't know WHAT I am going to do!"  Let us try to see ourselves as the centurian, with so much faith that we don't have to have hands layed on us or be anointed with oil or even be at church (although I highly recommend ALL the above), we can say "God, I need (insert your need, physical, financial, mental) and Jesus died on the cross so that I could approach Your throne boldly, so I am asking you in the name and through the blood of Jesus, to (heal me,supply my need, give me clarity of thought). I can promise you that your faith will not go unanswered. God is faithful. The old hymn, taken from Lamentation 3:23, says "Great is Thy faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see, all I have needed your hand has provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me." Someone made the comment about one of the Devotions, "Did you write that for me?", you may say "Did you write that ABOUT me?" My answer is this, if it "helps" you, or "hits" you, the answer is a resounding YES! It is for you and about you! I pray over what should be said here so I know that God is aware of your need and will give me the Word that will help you for this day! As the scripture, nothing I say is for any private interpretation, it is for everyone...YOU! Be blessed, pray and if your faith seems weak, cry out to the Lord as the father did in Mark 9:24 Lord I believe, please help my unbelief! God will not get mad at you for admitting it, He will give you the help you need! We are His children and He gave his only Son so that we could come to Him any time we want to!

Forgiveness and faithfulness are two words that have gotten lost in the world of unfaithful friends and lovers. There are those of us who are willing to give our love and devotion and then find that we have put our trust in the wrong place. Jeremiah 17:5 This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord. Maybe you don't trust God because you don't KNOW that you can lean on the Lord for help, or know that the only way we can truly forgive is to learn from the One Who forgave US! Unforgiveness and hatred in your heart and mind, is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick, or die. Chances are they don't know how you feel, and if they do, they simply do not care! So why burden yourself with hating or not forgiving them, it means they are actually controlling your life! There is only One who completely, continually, forgives, and that is God Almighty.

My parents have been married 67 years! In today's world when a movie star says they have been married 5 years, everyone applauds and cheers for such a long lived marriage. I have watched more than one star hiding from the paparazzi in their multi-thousand dollar dress at their multi-million dollar wedding, only to see them getting a divorce a few months (weeks even) later. It seems like things such as loyalty to vows and people, whether romantic connections or just friends, don't count anymore.GOD is faithful, you can't get so old that he is looking for someone YOUNGER to convert, or too ugly or fat or better yet, He doesn't get bored with you! He joined Himself to us. In the wedding ceremony, the minister says "What do you give as a token of your love and fidelity", the normal answer is "A ring", which symbolizes the neverending circle of love. God did not give a ring, He gave His only Son, Jesus Christ as the covenant offering, His promise of love and fidelity toward His Bride. I used to say that when you get married you have to "quit dating other people", looks to me like too many Christians give their heart to the Lord and then flirt with the devil on a daily basis. They put their feet under Satan's table and dine with him and then expect God to "understand". We shouldn't do it in the flesh and we can't do it in the Spirit. Lamentations 3:22 (the Message) God's loyal love couldn't have run out, his merciful love couldn't have dried up. They're created new every morning. How great your faithfulness! I'm sticking with God (I say it over and over). He's all I've got left. These beautiful words from the Bible remind me of one of my favorite hymns: Great Is Thy Faithfulness Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be. Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath  provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

We are taking this journey together, so come on, get on board and let's see where the road takes us as we are blessed, forgive, and remain faithful to the Lord and each to other, He is faithful to you!
