I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go to the house of the Lord."Ps.122:1
As a child growing up, Sunday was the happiest day of my life! Saturdays were spent in preparation for it, my dad spending the day in prayer and study for the two sermons he would deliver, at 11AM and 7:30PM. Mother would have our clothes washed and ironed and laid out so we could get dressed quickly and be ON TIME! At the age of 10 I had the special privilege of playing the organ in the church service for the first time! Talk about being happy! I gave a lesson to the entire church at the age of 12...my beginning line was "Come into my parlor, said the spider to the fly, tis the prettiest little parlor that ever did you spy." I likened the spider to Satan and us as the poor, pitiful flies! Well, it was good for a girl to have come up with! I loved to go to the altar and pray for the people who had come to give their heart to God or recieve the Spirit, or simply had problems. I remember one particular Sunday evening that I was praying for someone and the Spirit came over me, at the age of 8, my mother felt that I was too emotional and came and took me home. She didn't realize that it was an early calling of what God had for me to do in the future. Sometimes adults don't realize how the Spirit of God moves on tender, young hearts.
When we get callused because of things that we go through, we have to remember that our God is not responsible for our letting the "cares of this life" over take us!
When you need the prayer that will bring you close to God, go to your Bible and turn to Psalm 51. Instead of just reading it, read it as a prayer, the way the author did (this is a Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet went to him after he had gone in to Bathsheba). When you get to verse 12, pray it with conviction: Restore to me the JOY of Your salvation, and uphold me with Your generous Spirit. 13. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You.
I can tell you, from experience, that you will be refreshed and ready to get up and go to the House of the Lord to worship Him in the beauty of Holiness!
