My day started so early this morning that it feels like I have been up for two days, my feet are tired...need to unlace these NewBalance shoes… the kitchen is finally clean and the house is settling down for sleep and I am happy. I do believe this was the best Thanksgiving Day I have had in years.  My eight year old grandson, Gabriel, has been working all week on a little project. I didn’t know what he was going to do with it, but he had asked me to sit down with him for an “appointment” and I did. He told me he was making “Thankful Lists” for everyone. He had his little book and with his second grade writing skills, wrote down my list. Today at lunch I realized why. He asked everyone to give him their attention he had something to say. He told us “Today is Thanksgiving, so when I count to three everyone say HAPPY THANKSGIVING! He counted, we loudly proclaimed the day and then he got out his book. He read each of our Thankful Lists! It really made me think, that is what the day is all about and it took Gabriel to point it out. As he had prayed over the lunch he told God that he was really thankful that we had a special day to be thankful and that he wished that God had a special birthday like Jesus has Christmas, then he designated the day August 10! He told God that would be His birthday from now on, August 10! Needless to say we all were shaking with mirth and he took offence to our lack of seriousness…we made it right. Sometimes it takes a little child to point out to us adults, who are so busy with the cares and plans and work of this life, that we are forgetting the most important thing and that is to be Thankful to God for all His goodness to us! Read Psalm 8, which I am placing below, and pay special attention to verse 2!

Psalm 8

A psalm of David.

 1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
       You have set your glory
       above the heavens.

2 From the lips of children and infants
       you have ordained praise
       because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
       the work of your fingers,
       the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings c
and crowned him with glory and honor.

 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:

 7 all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

 9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Be blessed, be thankful and Pray baby Pray!

Another Day in Paradise

In honor of Thanksgiving, let us remember to help someone else that may not have as much to be thankful for as you! Love and blessings to you and yours on this special day! Happy Thanksgiving!

These lyrics are by Phil Collins and I would like for you to read them and think about it!

Another Day in Paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
sir, can you help me?
Its cold and Ive nowhere to sleep,
Is there somewhere you can tell me?

He walks on, doesnt look back
He pretends he cant hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh think twice, its another day for
You and me in paradise

Thanksgiving! I love it! I remember exactly how the mimeograph paper smelled with its pictures of turkeys and Indians and cornucopias spilling over with fruit! I would color each feather of the turkey’s tail with a different color crayon…the same way I colored the feathers on the Indian’s headdress! How is it I didn’t know that turkeys don’t HAVE feathers of different colors? But I did it meticulously and thought the result of it just beautiful! I wonder if YOU did the same.  It seems to me that we did not get the whole day off on the Wednesday before, but got out at noon. I was always so happy, it meant we were going to “Little Mama’s” house and Joan would be there. The house always smelled of the food that little mama was already preparing, why DID she cook her green beans all day and add a Coke to the pot? I was surprised to find out, when I started cooking for myself, that green beans actually get done in about 18 to 20 minutes! Yet, there they would be, that big pot of beans with the little potatoes in it. The spiced apples…I looked for them in every store this year and could only find the rings…it just isn’t a Thanksgiving meal without the little red spiced apples. My mother and Little Mama did the cooking and my mother’s sisters were generally found primping, doing make-up and hair while the “cooks” had yet to take rollers out of their own. Joan and I always got to set the table and after all was done, when we got tall enough, we were elected to do the dishes…yes there was NO dishwasher in those days! The younger children running, playing various games and the men sitting in another room talking about politics but always ending up discussing their latest, greatest sermon..Yes, they were ALL preachers! Well all but one of my Uncles, and he was the one we could always count on to make us laugh! The dinner would finally be put on the table and everyone seated. All the children gathered around, near their own parents, for the prayer. My granddaddy was the one that always said the prayer. I can hear his voice ringing out now in Thanksgiving that all his children had been kept safe for another year, thanking God that not one had been lost. He always thanked God for protecting us from dangers “both seen and unseen” and then pray for a “world wide revival”. With the Amen, the kids went back into the kitchen to their own table, and the food was passed around. When everyone finished and the dishes were done, they would gather in the living room and just talk and laugh and regale each other with stories that had been embellished to make them either very funny, or extremely sad. Either way, during the course of the evening, everyone would both laugh and cry.

All of the “children” have grown up now, and those adults are all citizens of the very “Senior” type (don’t you dare tell them I said that!) and when we get together it is a different scene. We were all together not too long ago at my Aunt’s house. There was food and conversation, but no one was really laughing out loud, and when the meal was done, my two Uncles were both sitting in recliners…fast asleep.

Little Mama and Little Daddy, Joan and Becky are all having their Thanksgiving in heaven now and I hope that as they look at us from their vantage point, they will see us, all in our separate celebrations now, being thankful for all of God’s goodness to us. We can no longer say that we are all there without the loss of one, but at least the ones that are no longer there have reached the place of eternal sunshine and everlasting peace.

I am finishing my second cup of coffee, wiping away a few tears of sweet memories and setting out today to make some new memories for my own grandchildren…and by the way, I am not called “little mama” I am just plain “Mammy”.

Be thankful, be blessed and Pray baby Pray!

Have you ever had someone just “rip out your heart and stomp that sucker flat”? (Quote from the late Lewis Grizzard) That happened to me today.

There are three types of love, and I know that I have expounded on them at some time or other in a Blog, they are Eros, Filial and Agape. Eros is the sensual type of love that exists between husband and wife, Filial is the love we feel for our family or close friends, and Agape is Divine Love or the love of God. This is the love we must have for our fellow man, the kind of love that makes us more like God. I feel that having all three types of love in your life are important and can make you complete, but the most important of all these is the Agape, Divine, love with which we love each other. The scripture tells us that God IS love.1 John 4:8 (The Message) 7-10 My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn't know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can't know him if you don't love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they've done to our relationship with God.

God sent Jesus to take away any and all sins in our life. The Bible tells me that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no man can enter into heaven EXCEPT through Jesus. John 14:6 (New King James Version) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. Did you read that? There is no other way but Jesus, he is not A way, He is THE way.

When I love I really love with my whole heart. I give without expectation of a return. It hurts when you give of yourself to a person and they turn their back on you. God gave us the best He had, His only Son, and yet so many are turning their back on Him. They are denying the Jesus of the cross and making Buddha, Mohammed, Father Moon and others as important to their life as Jesus should be. The world, as we know it, is becoming anti Christian and it is Christians themselves that are making this movement grow! Whose fault is it? I believe it is the fault of the people who should have been examples of what is good and true, a follower of Jesus not only in word but in deed. I am sorry that these things have happened and I would hate to think that I had ever disappointed a person so badly that they turned away from the true and living God because of me. However, we, as adults, have to take responsibility for our own salvation. Look deep inside of yourself and find the faith of your mother. If I feel hurt when someone turns away from me, how much pain and hurt must God feel after giving us His finest?

This human spent an hour crying from the bottom of my heart for one that I have tried to help. I thought I had…

I am blessed and I pray that you are too! I am praying for our nation, our leaders, and friends that are turning away from the truth. Pray baby Pray!
